This man is never shy to Produce the goods in public.
What do you do at Free Radical?
Project Manager. Sometimes known as Producer, but I totally prefer Project Manager. Those in the industry will understand why. I am here to be an interface between the development team and the publisher, to make sure everyone knows where we are going and what we are doing, and that you get your games when you want them, to the quality you want them.
How did you get into the 'biz'?
I was working as Development Director for an IT company in another industry. I got hammered one night and thought, 'I can do that for games. I've always wanted to work in games. I love you. You're my best mate'. So I sent a speculative email to Free Radical. At the same time, they were looking for someone with my skills, and the rest is history. Having lost six months of my life by playing TimeSplitters 2, I then went on to be the Project Manager on TimeSplitters Future Perfect. Nuf said.
What was your worst piece of work?
This interview.
What piece of work are you most proud of?
My 6 year old son and my 13 week old daughter.
Who do you admire?
People who have made a successful start up company in the biz. One that is still going. I speak to so many people with horror stories. Kudos to those who stay afloat.
Who rips off your ideas?
Not really relevant for me as I'm not creative, only with Gantt Charts and Spread Sheets. Anyone who wants to rip them off is sad. Really sad.
What was your nickname at school?
Not really printable. Similar to 'Speccy twit' only with a different vowel in the final word. Sad times. Thanks for bringing it up. No really. Thanks...
What do you think is the best game of all time and why?
FREEDOM FIGHTERS. That game rocks on all levels. It is the only game I have completed on every difficulty setting. It is fun, simple, empowering and the best squad game on PS2. Period. It's the daddy. That or Speedball on the Amiga. Oooh that was fun.
What do you think is the worst game of all time and why?
That's a tricky one. No old games are that bad in my eyes. They were all pretty funky. Besides, I know now how hard it is to make a game, and I don't want to kick people who have already been beaten up by the reviewers.
What question are you glad I didn't ask you?
Did that cream work?
